Zapping – Cristina Padiglione: Canal Brasil honors Pelé with reruns of films and rare scenes

by

Sao Paulo

This Thursday, the 29th, Canal Brasil starts a series of tributes to Pelé, who died of cancer at the age of 82.

From 8:20 pm, Pelé’s interview for Cinejornal and the film “Pelé Eterno” (2004), by Anibal Massaini Neto, will be shown in sequence.

On Friday, the 30th, a tribute to Pelé will be aired, at 8 pm, and the documentary “Isto é Pelé” (1974), by Eduardo Escorel and Luiz Carlos Barreto, at 8:25 pm. On Saturday, the 31st, the program continues with “Pelé – An Unknown King” (2017), by Ernesto Rodrigues, at 7:25 pm, and “Loneliness – A Beautiful Love Story” (1989), by Victor di Mello, at 8:00 pm.

In the interview with Cinejornal, held in 2004, he talks with Simone Zuccolotto about cinema and, mainly, about the documentary “Pelé Eterno”, which will be aired next. The production narrates the life of the king of football through archival footage and testimonials from colleagues, former players and celebrities of the time.

The homage to the idol that airs on Saturday rescues archive footage from Canal Brasil and an interview with the King about his relationship with cinema. “Isto É Pelé” tells the player’s story from the beginning of his career in the sport, at the age of 17. In the documentary, the star talks about his career and recalls matches and goals that marked his career and Brazilian football.

The co-production of Canal Brasil “Pelé – Um Rei Desconhecido” presents a compilation of rare images of the idol over the years on and off the field in Brazil, Europe, the Americas and even Oceania. “Loneliness – A Beautiful Love Story” was Pelé’s last work in theaters and brings the player in the role of a friend of Tarcísio Meira’s character.

Considered the best soccer player of all time and one of the most popular athletes in the world, Edson Arantes do Nascimento collected records, titles and, above all, goals. Pelé scored 1,283 times and is the greatest scorer in football history. The player is the only player to win three World Cups and the youngest to win the tournament, aged just 17.

Nicknamed the King of football, he was born in Minas Gerais, in the city of Três Corações, and died today, aged 82, in São Paulo.
