“Hello friends, whoever saw it, saw it, and learned it. Those who didn’t see it, lost it, and won’t see another one like it. The world is in mourning and football is in eternal mourning. Rest in peace, dear King Pelé”, he read, with the letter in hand.

Gerson, called the maestro of the tri by the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation), made three millimetric launches for Pelé, which resulted in goals for Brazil in the 1970 Cup — in the first of them, against Czechoslovakia, the ball took a curve and fell into the net. King’s chest.

On Instagram, he published a photo of himself with his face next to Pelé’s, in a team hug. And he wrote that a “king does not die, he just rests”.

“I had the honor of playing alongside Pelé, and against him, too. A true genius, among the few I’ve met. He enchanted the world with his unique football, worthy of all the awards and trophies he won during his brilliant and unparalleled trajectory, within the sport. His great work, his sensational goals, his magnificent vision of the game will surely remain for eternity. Sincerely, thank you Pelé, for everything you have done for Brazilian and world football. May the King rest in peace , and may God comfort his friends, family, and his millions of fans,” wrote Gerson.

Other tri players used social media to honor their former teammate. Rivellino published a video with fireworks burning in front of the sea and the image of a shirt in the sky with the number 10 and the name Pelé on the back.

“Your place at God’s side. My eternal king. Rest in peace,” wrote Rivellino.

Jairzinho, the “Hurricane of the Cup”, posted a photo in which he carries Pelé with his fist raised. “Simply the Greatest of All Time,” he wrote.

In a text, Tostão wrote that “Pelé was the best of all time because he had, at the highest level, all the qualities of a superstar”.

Pepe, an attacking partner on the legendary Santos multi-champion team, published a photo in which he runs his hand over the boy’s face, as a gesture of affection from an older brother.

“Everyone knew the seriousness of Pelé’s illness. I, especially, who had contact with the family. However, we had hopes that he would recover and that the King of the Ball would smile again and we could still enjoy his constant good humor for longer. But it was not possible. Pelé left us and the memory of the greatest footballer of all and ever remains. Rest in peace King Pelé, my eternal friend. Football is in mourning.”
