Neymar’s father says his son asked him to represent him at Pele’s funeral

In April 2019, in the city of Paris, France, Pelé and Neymar had their last personal contact. At the time, the King of football was carrying out a commercial agenda when he had to be rushed to the hospital due to a urinary tract infection.

After that, they never saw each other again.

This Monday (2), upon arriving at Vila Belmiro where Pelé is being veiled, Neymar da Silva Santos, father of the Paris Saint-Germain player, said that his son managed to say goodbye to the idol just by telephone.

Without giving details of the conversation, he said that Neymar was very sad after the King’s death, last Thursday (29), and he was especially sorry not to be able to be present at the wake.

“Our feeling is one of great sadness. That’s why my son asked me to be here, in his place, to bring this support to the family [do Pelé]. We know how hard it is to lose someone. We didn’t just lose the athlete, we lost Edson too”, said the athlete’s father.

According to him, after that meeting in Paris, neither he nor his son had contact with Pelé again: “We couldn’t do it anymore.”

After serving suspension in PSG’s last game, in the 3-1 defeat to Lens, last Sunday (1st), Neymar will return to the field next Saturday (6th), against Châteauroux, for the French Cup.
