Crime and punishment in OAKA!

A pity and unfair for this Panathinaikos…

After almost a month of bad performances and results in the Euroleague, the “greens” finally got a pulse in OAKA, looked Fener in the eye, fought until the final, even reaching a… breath of victoryhowever Lee’s mistake, as well as one of the refereeing trio at the end of regular time, sent the match to overtime, where they succumbed with a score of 94-88.

With 5 minutes to go, the dieting trio… turned a blind eye to flagrant foul on Ponitka, with whom the Pole would go to the shots…

A defeat that brought Panathinaikos to the penultimate place in the standings with 6-12 record and six losing streaks, with the club record in offensive rebounds (26 in total!), but also the excellent performances of Bacon (27 points) and Pony (14p., 12p. the 10 offensive) to go strafi…

On the other hand, Dimitris Itoudis’ team put an end to their five consecutive defeats in the competition, rising to 5th place in the standings with a record of 11-7. Leading for the winners was Hayes-Davis with 24 points.

The match

With Walters, Giorgos Kalaitzakis, Bacon, Williams and Gudaitis in his starting five, he started Panathinaikoswho came in quite a bit “nervous” in the match. With three mistakes in the first two minutes, the “greens” gave Fener the right to take the lead 6-1 in 2′. Walters and Bacon, however, with four and three points respectively, aggressively “unstuck” the “greens” and with a quick 7-0 streak brought Panathinaikos ahead of the score with 8-6 at 4′.

From that point until the end of the first period, the two teams were close with the lead changing hands five times. With two shots of it Bacon and a three-pointer of his Papagianni from the top, the home team went +3 (19-16 at 9′), with Motley’s dunk on the breath setting up the 19-18 of the first quarter.

Panathinaikos-Fenerbahce:

With his three-pointer Pony from the corner the second period started for Panathinaikos (22-18). The shamrocks then lost their composure, with Papagiannis charged with three fouls – the unsportsmanlike one – within half a minute, and with unanswered offensive errors (11 errors in the first half), allowed the Turks to find easy baskets in the surprise for a partial 9-2 and the overtaking (24-29 at 15′).

Paris Lee and Nate Walters brought the match tied (29-29), with Wilbekin and Motley answering for 34-29 at 16′. In the last four minutes, the “greens” tightened their defense, and with a “gun” the offensive rebounds (10 in the first part) and the baskets of Bacon and Gudaitisclosed the first half at +3 for 39-36.

Panathinaikos-Fenerbahce:

Panathinaikos’ start to the second half was excellent, with Dejan Radonic’s men going on a quick 4-0 run through Bacon and Williams to take the lead for the first time at +7 (43-36 at 22′). With a continuous counterattack and with Motley and Hayes doing “damage” to the “drawing board”, Fener brought the match to another draw (49-49 at 26′).

But the “greens” responded quickly and got a reaction with two big three-pointers from Williams and Lee for +6 (55-49 at 27′). Bringing out tremendous mood and energy in the defense “locking” Fener’s offensive assets, Panathinaikos closed the third quarter at +8 for 59-51, with Bacon’s buzzer-beater, after a new offensive rebound (15 at that point of match)!

With five quick points from Edwards, Fener reduced to 5 (61-56) at 32′, with Panathinaikos on the other hand, seeing Bacon limp and leave the floor. However, the hosts remained ahead of the score keeping one small but significant difference, mainly through offensive rebounds and second chances.

The team of Dimitris Itoudis, however, “gnawed away” at the difference, naturally taking advantage of Panathinaikos’ bad three minutes, as a result of which it reduced to minimum value of the difference (63-62 at 35′). Bacon returned to the court, and with seven collected points gave offensive “breath” to the “clover” for 72-67 in the 37th minute. With a three-pointer by Kalathis, Fener reduced to a point again (74-73), but Gudaitić’s composure from the shots and Ponitka’s basket from eighth offensive rebound of (!) they sent Panathinaikos at +5 for 78-73, 34” before the final.

Panathinaikos-Fenerbahce 88-94

Somewhere there they came two tragic mistakes of the referees, with Goodrich steal and make a three-pointer for 78-78 at 24” and while the Serb was stepping outside, and then at 5” before the end with the referees they don’t give fouls and by extension the right to shoot at Ponitka.

However, the “greens” had a double chance to take the game in the final, however both Bacon and Ponitka missed the last attack, resulting in the match being drawn in overtime (78-78).

Panathinaikos-Fenerbahce 88-94

It was obvious that in the extra five minutes of the match, Panathinaikos had run out of energy and imagination in their game, thus resorting to bad and far-fetched offensive actions. By Hayes-Davis scoring 9 points in the extra five minutes and with Fener on his back, the Turks reached the pink sheet with a score of 94-88…

The quarters: 19-18, 39-36, 59-51, 78-78, 88-94 par.
