Opinion – PVC: With or without SAF, champions will be the clubs that work best

by

There are at least five more clubs structured to quickly transform themselves into Sociedade Anônimas do Futebol (SAF), in addition to Cruzeiro: América-MG, Athletico, Atlético-GO, Botafogo and Chapecoense.

The lawyer Eduardo Carlezzo told the SporTV team that there is a seventh club, unknown. Vasco is also structured to be SAF.

Let’s say everyone starts the new year with a new company. It’s already understood that not everyone will be champions. There will be no miracle.

The good news is that Brazilian businessmen, who invested in European football, are now putting money in here. Ronaldo’s case. It is not known what the size of each project will be.

Hypothesis 1: it can be a business success, stable in Serie A and always occupy the tenth position in the table. Hypothesis 2: sell players, be financially stable, pay bills on time and make a profit for shareholders.

The third option will be for few: to turn Chelsea and Manchester City.

Arsenal is an example of stability without a cup. English champion undefeated in 2004, Champions League runner-up for 15 years, has been ahead of rivals Tottenham for 21 straight seasons. In the last five years, he has settled between fifth and eighth places, has not been ahead of Tottenham since 2016, was runner-up in the Europa League and is far from the Champions. But its shareholders are happy. Arsenal makes a profit.

There is no doubt that SAF will produce individual solutions and could be a huge gain for football to become, in Brazil, an important sector of the country’s economy. This was the objective of the legislation of the Sociedad Anónima Deportiva (SAD), signed in Spain on October 15, 1990.

Thirty years later, football represents 1.3% of GDP and generates 186,000 jobs for Spaniards. The great victory of the SAF will be to make the Brazilian State look at football as a sector of economic activity, which produces wealth, pays taxes and creates jobs.

If there are six, ten or 20 clubs paying on time and working seriously, it will increase the chance of having a championship managed by an executive capable of turning the seed into a huge tree of happiness.

Whether clubs that become SAF will be champions or occupy intermediate positions in the table will depend on each case. It is always worth remembering that 80% of Premier League clubs are controlled by international investors. Only three have been champions in the last five seasons: Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea.

In the Spanish League, 16 of the 20 teams are SAD. Only Barcelona, Real Madrid, Athletic Bilbao and Valencia have not been relegated since the legislation came into force.

It will work for Brazil if there is work. It will work for each club, within each objective. The champions will be the ones who work best. As always was.

Who invented Brazil?

The president of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues, promises to come back from recess and define the historical situation of the Brazilian champions. It is not a question of revising, but ending the confusion. It is not possible to unify championships since 1959 and celebrate 50 years of competition in 2021.

It will also analyze the absurd request made by Atlético-MG to match the 1937 Champions Tournament to the Brazilian Championship, played only by teams from the Southeast.

This election does not have to be approved, just as there had to be no unification 11 years ago. But there was and it is not possible to tell the story of Brazil each one in its own way.

We just want to know how to tell children: since 1959 or since 1971? Cabral discovered or invaded Brazil?
