Hadjichristodoulou-SKAI: We expect around 10,000 cases per day – Omicron prevailed until January 15

by

There are much more than 130 cases of Omicron in our country, stressed the Vice President of the Committee of Public Health Experts Christos Hadjichristodoulou.

Speaking to SKAI, Mr. Hadjichristodoulou spoke about 5 cases which are confirmed by a special PCR test for Omicron.

The majority of cases are from travel, he explained and suggested that those coming from abroad stay in quarantine for a few days. “If we have many imports in the country, we will have many cases.”

Asked about the course of the Omicron variant, he estimated that it will spread very quickly and will prevail until January 15. He said that the cases are expected to exceed 6,000 and reach about 10,000.

“The virus is spreading fast,” he said. A study of in-house transmission comparing mutations showed that Delta was 2 times more likely to be vaccinated, while Omicron 2 was 2 times more likely than Delta to be vaccinated. “So the vaccinated will get sick,” he said.

Mr. Hadjichristodoulou also pointed out that “we will all come in contact with the virus at some point. “Vaccinated people, however, will be protected from hospitalization.”

Regarding the seriousness of the Omicron executive, he said:

“It appears from many studies that it has reduced morbidity and reduced disease severity. It ranges from 50% and above, but this 50% is offset by increased transmissibility. That is, if I have double the contagion, the final result in the hospitalizations will be the same. ”

He stressed, in fact, that the use of a mask is necessary.

Regarding further measures, he said that the nightclubs are the first to be taken. Hours may be limited, but they can be closed altogether if things go awry.

As for the schools, he said that from next week the Commission will review the protocol.

Finally, referring to the measure of the lockdown, he said that we can not do it continuously. “Lockdown is not the right solution,” he said.

As for when we will return to normalcy, he said that “the end of the pandemic will not come, the post-pandemic period will come. We will not get rid of the vaccinations. Natural immunity does not have the same quality as vaccines. “In the future, the same thing will happen with the flu.”
