The Panhellenic Fencing Cup for men and women was organized by AOX Aegaleo under the auspices of EOX and was dedicated to the memory of the club’s athlete, George Pavlidis, who passed away a few years ago after a battle with cancer.

In the men’s final, the experienced Nikos Kontochristopoulos (AOX Aigaleo) won against Raphael Soulios (AXIA) with 15-5 and increased his points lead with Giorgos Manolikas (AXIA), winner of the previous cup and No. 2 in the pan-Hellenic ranking of of men. Kontochristopoulos now has 411.5 points against Manolikas’ 353.3.

The two bronze medals were won by Yiannis Andriopoulos (AOX Aigaleo) and Dimitris Panagopoulos (AEK).

In the women’s category, we had another final between Katerina Kontochristopoulou (AOX Aigaleo) and Maria Chaldaiou (AXIA) with the former winning with a score of 15-2. Kontochristopoulou now leads the Panhellenic ranking of women with 409.4 against 401.6, but her final form will be judged at the Panhellenic Championship.

The home club took both bronze medals thanks to Stavrina Garifallou and Vasiliki Mekra.

Junior Women’s Saber World Cup (U20)

Three Greek women competed last Saturday in Spain. In the qualifying round, Marilena Gazepidis (OSFP) and Alina Kouroussi (AO Apollon Vrilissio) scored one victory each in six encounters, while Gavriella Kokkosis-Stergiou could not register a victory.

Of the 99 gymnasts on the main board, those who scored two victories and above in the pools qualified, so the Greeks completed their performance early. Kourousi took 80th place, Gazepidi 89th place and Kokkosis-Stergiou 98th place overall.
