Jürgen Klopp sent an open letter to the Liverpool fans. Among other things, he thanked them for their support, spoke about the image he was left with from 2021 and described himself as the luckiest man in the world.
Details of what Jürgen Klopp said:
On the field it is true that there were moments in 2021 that were very difficult for football reasons, especially in the first months of the year. We had more long-term injuries and we fought consistently and in form.
But I have to say once again that the way the kids did it and went 10 games unbeaten to get us back to the Champions League remains one of my proudest moments as a coach.
There is a photo stuck in my mind from the last day of last season. It was pulled after the game and we had 10,000 fans at Anfield. It shows Nathaniel Phillips and Reese Williams applauding the fans in front of them both with bruises and cuts on their faces.
For me, this image better captured what the children achieved. We showed a real Liverpool spirit and honestly I could not be more proud. Of course, this season the kids are flying once again and showing everyone why I am the luckiest person in the world to be able to call myself their coach. Working with them every day is a pleasure.
And finally, I would like to thank our supporters. Having you back in a full Anfield is without a doubt the ultimate highlight of my year. After the game with Leicester (3/3) on December 22, I gave an interview in which I said how much I like being a member of this incredible club, because of how special it is, because we are all for each other.
But one of the main reasons that makes this club so special, so different, is you. We saw the impact of not having you in Anfield or with us in away games or in Europe and we felt it. Believe me, we all felt it.
The game on Wednesday night (22/12) was the perfect example of Anfield’s strength, because it is a place that every opponent hates to play. Without your support, the return of the children would be much more difficult. From the bottom of my heart and all my players and staff, thank you for your dedication, sacrifice, support, love and patience over the last 12 months.
I’m excited about what the next 12 months as a team have in store for us. I am absolutely convinced that we will live many unforgettable moments and more successes together.
