Thessaloniki will host the ninth of this year’s ten Duel Sword Cups in the adolescent/youth category. The matches will take place in the “Mimi Tsikina” indoor gym of the CHANTH. On Saturday 28/1 the individual tournament will be held and on Sunday 29/1 the team tournament will be held.
The entries reach 296 in total, which turns the event into a real celebration of fencing. A total of 156 teenagers from 19 different countries and 140 juniors from 17 different countries will compete on the 18 tracks. It should be noted that this year is the second consecutive year that this event is being held in Thessaloniki in collaboration with EFC. However, it will be the first time in history that our country welcomes so many sportsmen and women in an international fencing event.
Greece will participate with a large team in both the teenagers and the juniors. The Greek colors will be represented by 60 teenagers and 46 young women from the clubs throughout Greece dedicated to dueling swords. Among the athletes who will represent us will be Konstantinos Karambasis (AO Ariston Paanias) who is currently ranked No. 3 in Europe, but also Panagiotis Theodoropoulos (AO Ariston Paanias) who is ranked No. 28 in Europe.
Our country as the organizer has increased obligations also in terms of refereeing, in whose team eleven Greek men and one Greek woman have been declared.
