Corinthians beats Flamengo and wins the second female Super Cup

by

The Corinthians women’s team has more Brazilian Super Cup titles than the men’s team. The second cup won by the alvinegro club in two editions of the competition in its version for women was obtained on Sunday morning (12), with a 4-1 defeat of Flamengo, at the Itaquera stadium, in São Paulo.

The two goals by Tamires and two by Millene –Daiane Santos scored– built the scoreboard, a portrait of the vast superiority of the black and white formation, which maintains its routine of lifting trophies. If the team of men from the Parque São Jorge association has not raised one since 2019, those called “Brabas” do not stop celebrating.

Corinthians reactivated women’s football in 2016 and that year won the Copa do Brasil. After that, he triumphed three times in the Campeonato Paulista (2019, 2020 and 2022), four in the Brazilian Championship (2018, 2020, 2021 and 2022) and three in the Copa Libertadores (2017, 2019 and 2021), always under the command of Arthur Elias.

Now came the second edition of the Brazilian Super Cup (2022 and 2023), a competition won by the men’s team in 1991, also against Flamengo. At the time, the tournament was still not very prestigious. Neto scored the goal that defined the triumph by 1 to 0, accompanied by 2,706 paying people at Morumbi.

This Sunday’s match had 25,779 spectators at the Neo Química Arena. An audience with a large majority from Corinthians who didn’t have to wait a minute to celebrate. Bárbara made a great save with a shot by Gabi Portilho, but Belinha took the rebound and left Tamires in a great position to score.

Flamengo tried to react and had moments of danger, but saw their situation get complicated in a penalty committed by Bárbara on Vic Albuquerque. Millene converted, at 36. Still in the first half, at 49, Vic Albuquerque was left in the half moon and played for Millene, who, in the face of Bárbara, concluded with precision.

The match practically resolved itself before the break. On the way back, 12 minutes into the final stage, Gabi Portilho made a good move on the right and crossed for Tamires to finish with his right foot. The rout was established, which was not threatened by the solitary goal scored by Daiane Santos, at 24 minutes.

It was Corinthians’ easiest game in the Supercopa, which, in its women’s version, brings together the top four from each of the two divisions of the Brazilian Championship in a knockout match. The alvinegra team beat Atlético Mineiro by 1 to 0 and defeated Grêmio by 2 to 1 before imposing itself on Flamengo, which only more recently started to make greater investments in the modality.
