Delays in wages put at risk Avaí’s access to Serie A of the Brazilian Championship. Seven players who played in the second division for the team from Santa Catarina filed a complaint with the STJD (Superior Court of Sports Justice). The entity confirms that it has been notified of the matter.

According to article 31 of the Pelé Law, the club that has more than three months of salary arrears with athletes will be subject to the loss of three points.

Avaí finished Serie B this year in fourth place, with 64 points. If it was punished, it would have 61 and would be surpassed by the CSA, with 62. The team from Alagoas would rise, thus, to the elite.

“Diego Renan, Edilson, Iury, João Lucas, Jonathan, Rafael Pereira and Ronaldo sought out the Union of Professional Football Athletes of the State of Santa Catarina (SAPFESC), which notified the club and filed a Notice of Infraction in the Football Court. The Attorney for the Sports Justice opened its inspection this Thursday morning, December 30, so that Avaí could comment on the complaint,” says the note released by the STJD.

The union informed the court of the debt to each player and sent a copy of the notification addressed to Avaí in August, asking the club to pay the arrears. Values were not disclosed.

The Santa Catarina club will have three days to respond to the STJD, but the deadline will start to run from January 20, when the court will return from recess.

Avaí lives in a political limbo and only at the beginning of next week it should deal with the matter. The term of President Francisco Battistotti ends at 23:59 this Friday (31). wanted by leaf, he did not answer the reports’ calls.

Elected to lead the club from Saturday (1st), Julio Heerdt claims to be aware of the problem and says he asked the athletes to wait until next week for a solution, but he was not answered.

“I hereby publicly reaffirm the commitment of the entire new board, which will assume their positions on January 1st, with the payment of back wages for athletes and employees. I am aware of the complaint forwarded to the STJD, closely following the development of the facts and certain that the best solution to the problem will be found”, wrote the president-elect on Twitter, promising that Avaí will compete in the Serie A of the Brazilian Nationals in 2022.

Interested in the case, the CSA informs that it has asked its lawyers to follow the case with the STJD.
