Surprise from AO Thiras, who beat Olympiakos 3-1 in Santorini in the second quarter-final of the Women’s Volleyball Cup and took the “ticket” to the semi-finals of the competition for the fifth time in its history, pending Thursday’s draw.
AOTH found themselves losing 14-17 in the first set and, with Olympiacos having a counter attack, but there Tsochatzis, Ziogas and Fakis brought the upset. The last one with two aces and an error by the “red and white” brought the score to 18-17 for AOTH to reach 21-19 and, although Olympiacos equalized 21-21, with a new 4-0 run the Santorinis made it 1-0 .
AO Thiras led 14-12 in the second set, but there Olympiacos with individual scores 1-6, led 18-15 to comfortably reach the tie.
In the third set, AOTH was impressive and escaped with 8-4 and 16-9. The changes of Tsitsigiannis, Christodoulou reduced to 18-17 and Sala’s bad reception made it 20-17, with Langerer making it 2-1.
The Santorinis in the fourth set reached 8-3 and kept the lead, reaching the final victory.
