The AEK center spoke about his selection as the most valuable player and member of the best 5 of February in the Basketball Champions League, Achille Mitchell.
The American Panamanian commented on the FIBA website about his award: “An individual distinction is always something nice. It shows that you have the respect of your teammates and opponents, as well as the coaches. People see and respect the work you do. But it doesn’t mean anything more. We all know some great players who never got any individual accolades but still deserve everyone’s respect. It’s a great honor, however, in any case.”
Mitchell will receive his award before the match against Galatasaray in Liosia (15/03), in the first game in front of the world of AEK, who has missed the last three matches in Europe due to the suspension imposed on them: “We really missed our fans. We missed playing in front of them. Having them in the stands and receiving the award in front of them is something very important. I know they support us all year. I feel their love, both from Instagram and from other social media. They send me messages and it will be a very sweet feeling to be awarded in front of them.”
And he continued: “While being named MVP of the season would be great, a potential BCL win would be… a 100 times better feeling. Nothing compares to the feeling of winning a trophy. Some of my best memories come from my college days, with titles. That’s what I’m after. If, however, I also win the MVP award, it will also be a great honor for me.”
Finally, Mitchell also spoke about the transfer additions of Pierre Oriola and Braydon Lemar: “The changes will help us and give depth to our roster. We need to get to know each other, get chemistry and improve overall as a team” were the words of the 30-year-old center.
