Blockade by the Italian government on Eintracht fans ahead of Napoli

by

Eintracht Frankfurt will be without the usual crowd support next week in the return leg against Napoli for the last 16 of the Champions League.

Italy’s Interior Ministry plans to stop any ticket sales to away fans, the German club announced today. Eintracht, who lost the first leg 2-0 in Germany, expected to have just under 3,000 fans at the Diego Armano Maradona for the game. Fans of the two teams clashed before the first leg in Frankfurt, with police describing the game as high-risk.

Eintracht Frankfurt were told late last night by UEFA that Italy’s Ministry of the Interior will today issue a regulation banning the Italian club from selling tickets to Eintracht Frankfurt fans for the second leg on March 15“, the club said in a statement. “This will include the full 2,700 away fans, including the 2,400 in the away stands, that Eintracht were entitled to. Eintracht Frankfurt will comment further on this development once concrete details of the regulation are available».

As is known, tens of thousands of Eintracht fans traveled to Seville for the Europa League final against Rangers (5-4 on penalties/1-1) with the club having only 10,000 tickets available.
