Yiannis Kargiotakis won the gold medal in the European Men’s – Women’s Championship of Submission Wrestling held in Romania. The Greek champion excelled in yet another event and managed to climb to the highest step of the podium at 130k.
Kargiotakis, who is one of the best athletes in the history of the sport, since he counts five consecutive medals, started the event from the qualifying round. There he faced the 2022 World champion Piwowarski from Poland and prevailed 5-2.
This huge victory gave “wings” to the Greek champion. Then Kargiotakis prevailed 3-2 against the Ukrainian Isichko and advanced to the semi-finals. There he faced the Ukrainian Snihur who had won the silver medal in the world championship last year. The Cretan champion was unstoppable and won 10-1!
It was the fifth time that Yiannis Kargiotakis secured a medal in the European championship. He had two silver and two bronze medals so far. In the final, Rafigaev was on his way. The Moldovan champion withdrew due to injury and gave the Greek team the opportunity to… celebrate properly!
So the National Anthem was played in Romania in honor of Giannis Kargiotakis!
