With Berardi scoring from the penalty spot in the 71st minute, the Sassuolo beat Spezia 1-0 and climbed to 10th place in the Italian league standings with 36 points, -2 from 7th placed Juventus, remaining on course for Europe. Spezia is in “17” of the ranking with 24 points.
The home side missed a great chance to open the scoring in the 34th minute, but Berardi saw his effort hit the post. In the 45th minute, Sassuolo missed another big chance, with Dragovski saying no to Enrique’s header from close range.
However, in the 69th minute, Alessio Dionisi’s team, which was the only one on the pitch, won a penalty, with Berardi to turn it into a goal two minutes later, for 1-0!
Fratesi (73′) and Aroui (80′) missed a very big chance to make it 2-0, but their efforts did not find the target. At 90’+2′ it was Spezia’s turn to threaten, but Enzola’s cross went over Consilli’s goal. Thus, 1-0 was also the final result, with the visitors getting into… trouble in the battle for salvation.
