A 35-year Olympic record-Negative 10-year record for Panathinaikos

THE victory of Olympiakos over Panathinaikos in OAKA (74-76) for the Basket League was combined by a series of important achievements for the ones and negative records for the others.

The “red and white” left their opponent’s home with victory for the second year in a row in the regular season and this happened for the first time in 35 years. The last time something like this happened was two years 1986-1988. At that time, Olympiacos had passed the headquarters of the “greens” with 82-70 for the 1986-87 season and with 72-71 for the 1987-88 season.

On an individual level for Olympiakos, in the top 20 scorers of the team in the years of the professional Championship (from 1992/93 onwards) he took Sasha Vezenkov. With the 9 points he had in the derby, he reached 930 with Olympiakos and climbed to 20th place on the list after surpassing Ioannis Papapetrou who had 921 in the five years 2013-18.

Even last year’s Basket League MVP began counting down to 1,000 career rebounds in the division. With the six he collected in OAKA, he reached 900+ in 165 matches. At the same time, the Bulgarian international with his only accurate three-pointer (1/5) became the 14th in the history of Olympiakos in the Basket League to reach 100.

Isaiah Kanaan posted the 5th 75%+ three-point performance among players without a foul after going 3/4. The record is held by Elaiza Mitrou-Long of Aris who had 5/5 three-pointers and no errors in the away game against Apollon Carna.

In the lists of foreign players of Olympiakos, three of those who competed in the derby climbed: Shaquille McKissick with his 12 points entered the top 40 of the list of foreign scorers of the “red and whites”. He hit 378 and passed Henry Domerkant who had 371. Thomas Walkup had a steal and moved into the top 10 on the team’s hit list. He reached 62 and moved up to 9th place, leaving behind the late Roy Tarpley and Kyle Hines who each had 61. Mustafa Fal with his only cap, moved up to 7th place on the list of foreign blockers of Olympiakos. He reached 39 and passed Josh Childress.

On the other hand, Mr Panathinaikos He made negative 10-year record. Losing a second match in a row in the Basket League, after the previous defeat by PAOK, the “greens” suffered something they had suffered since the 2014/15 season. Then they had two consecutive defeats against Olympiakos away (on December 27, 2014 with 81-75) and PAOK (away on January 4, 2015 with 71-54).

At the same time, Panathinaikos met her fourth regular season loss for the first time in a decade. This was last done in the 2012/13 season when they finished the first round of the Championship with a record of 22-4.

On an individual level, the two rebounds he had in the derby with Olympiakos were enough for Giorgos Papagiannis to reach a double achievement: With the one offensive rebound he had, the captain of Panathinaikos “climbed” a place in the historical list of Panathinaikos and is now 6th. Papagiannis reached 277 offensive rebounds with the greens and surpassed James Gist by one. At the same time, with the only defensive rebound he had, Papagiannis became the 8th player in the history of Panathinaikos in the professional Championship (since 1992-93) to reach 600.

Also, Arturas Gudaitis matched his career high in assists as he finished the game with three. Before the derby he had reached the final two passes three times.
