The former Everton player spoke about his addictions, but also about the inglorious end of his football career, Billy Kenny.
The 49-year-old Englishman, in an interview with the “Liverpool Echo”, mentioned, among other things, how he drank alcohol and used cocaine for 25 years off and on and that this also meant the end of him from the sport. It should be noted that Kenny was one of the most talented players in the Merseyside team, but his bad lifestyle never allowed him to show what was expected of him.
“I never drank beer until I got to the Everton first team. It was a common thing. I was a child at the time. But then I drank alcohol and did cocaine for 25 years non-stop. Incessantly. I’m surprised he’s still alive. I would just get up, drink, drink for two days, for three days, sleep for two days, eat Chinese food and go back to the same thing. I was selfish. All I wanted was alcohol and drugs.
Now at 49 I’m sober and that’s great. I know where I went wrong when I was younger. I can clearly see that I needed help, but the help was not there for me. I got a second chance at life. I played for Everton and nobody can take that away from me. I enjoyed it. Now this is another phase of my life and I am starting to enjoy it. “I still have my bad days where I have to work really hard to stay healthy and sober, but I feel like my life is going really well.” were his words.
“I played for Everton and no-one can take that away from me. Now this is another part of my life where I’m starting to have a bit of fun about it”
