Ozil: “I chose Real over Barcelona because Mourinho made the difference”

About his transfer to Real Madrid, he spoke, among other things, in an interview with “Marca” Mesut Ozil. The 34-year-old German, who a few days ago announced his retirement, emphasized that he preferred the “meringues” from Barcelona because of his behavior Jose Mourinho.

Specifically, he mentioned that the Portuguese coach showed him around the field, showing him all the team’s trophies, as opposed to Pep Guardiola, with which they never met.

“It was a decision between Real Madrid and Barcelona. And in the end it wasn’t about money. I don’t know if this is known but I visited Madrid and Barcelona at the time and the difference was Jose Mourinho as he gave me a VIP visit to Real.

He took me to see the stadium and all the trophies they had won. That made me cringe. The visit to Barcelona was less exciting and the most disappointing thing is that Pep Guardiola didn’t bother to meet me. Before this trip I really liked Barcelona’s style of football and I could really imagine playing with them, but Real Madrid gave me everything.

So Jose Mourinho was undoubtedly the most important factor in my decision. After my visits, my decision was 100% clear: I wanted to be a Madrilenian,” were Mesut Ozil’s words.
