The… siphon Elisavet Teltsidou “hit” in Tbilisi as well. It was sweeping and of course all gold! The leading Greek judoka, under the guidance of national coach Nikos Iliadis, needed four victories, two of them by golden score, to celebrate winning the first place in the -70 kg category of the Tbilisi Grand Slam, almost five months after winning of the summit and in the corresponding event in Abu Dhabi.
The 7th Olympic champion of Tokyo, who in six grand slams since last October, has won three medals (2-0-1), while in the other three she was ranked 5th showing a memorable competitive stability, with the first in the capital of Georgia, essentially is “hugging” with direct qualification for the Paris Olympic Games. Already, before the organization of Tbilisi, she was in 6th place in the Olympic ranking, and given that for five months she has not lost contact with the top five, it is considered certain that very soon we will see her even higher!
The 3rd Mediterranean player of Oran needed the golden score against the Spanish Rodriguez to be able to qualify for the quarterfinals. There, in less than two minutes she “cleaned up” the victory against the Italian Esposito, while it took almost a minute (0:57) to overcome the obstacle of the German Butkereid in the semi-finals.
In the final, which came down to the golden score, everything was decided on the comments, with Teltsidou winning against the Dutchwoman Van Dijk (s.s. 3rd at the Tokyo Olympics) and climbing for the second time in five months on the first step of the winners’ podium.
With Teltsidou’s medal yesterday, our country reached a total of eight Grand Slams since 2009, with the PAOK judoka having already “caught” the record of Ilias Iliadis, with three medals (2-1-0).
