Jonsson: “Every match is a final, we don’t see five games ahead”

by

Regarding AEK’s match with Volos, as well as this coming Sunday against Aris at the “Opap Arena”, spoke Jens Jonson.

The Danish midfielder emphasized, among other things, that every game is “final”, while Matias Almeida’s players see each match separately and do not look five games ahead.

In detail what he said to the Cosmote TV camera:

For the match with Volos: “I think we did well in the first half, we did what we had to do. We didn’t manage to score a second goal, which would have “killed” the game. And that was our disadvantage in the second half. We struggled a bit more and we have to do better than that. Overall, though, we deserved the win and that’s the good thing.”

On whether AEK was in control of the game:

“To be honest, no, I don’t think we had total control in the second half. It was a game that had its ups and downs. Volos didn’t have big chances, but they were given the conditions and that wasn’t good for us. So we need more control, especially when we are 1-0 up, we need more control. Let’s be ready, in the end, to “kill” the game”.

On how they face the playoffs:

“I feel that the players and the coach are good at taking each game individually. Every match is “final”, we don’t see five games ahead, we don’t think about the previous five games. We focus our thinking on the very next game, now we have Mars. Of course, we enjoy the three points with Volos, but now we have Aris and that’s the important thing.”

On how it feels to be a part of this year’s playoffs:

“It is nice. Of course, that’s why you become a footballer, to play big games at the highest level. I feel that in Greece there are four or five high level teams and that is good. It is beautiful for the organization, for the sport and for the future of Greek football. It is nice”.

For the difficult game against Aris:

“As you said, it’s a difficult match. They have done well in the Playoffs recently and all teams suffer against them. As I said before, we should show them the same respect as Panathinaikos, Olympiakos and PAOK. Because we can easily suffer from them. So we should be vigilant.”
