Following his career he moved from Real Sociedad (2007/08), Coventry (2008-10), AEL (2011/12) and in 2012 (until 2017) he took over National team of his country and led it to the 8th place in the FIFA World Ranking, which is the highest in its history.

Under the leadership of Chris Coleman, Wales qualified for the first time in the final phase of the Euro, even reaching the semifinals of Euro 2016, winning first place in the group with England, Slovakia and Russia and knocking out Northern Ireland and Belgium. His term ended in November 2017.

In the same month he agreed with Sunderland in which he remained until the end of the season (2017/18) and then took over the Chinese Hebei (2018/19).
