The difficult dominance of Olympiakos in the men against AS Pera Athens stood out in today’s competitive movement of table tennis, which at least in the top inter-club category proceeded without other obstacles from the spread of the coronavirus.
The two clubs, which in the recent past gave big derbies for the titles, met in the federal hall of the Peace and Friendship Stadium for the 7th match. The champion and undefeated in the 1st group Olympiakos met strong resistance from the “Citizens” and finally defeated them 3-2.
Piraeus increased the absolute number of victories even later, while Panathinaikos, which is also undefeated in the 2nd group, passed to the top of the standings with two more victories, taking advantage of AEK’s break. Always with all the protection measures against the spread of the coronavirus, the games of the 8th round in the A1 women took place today.
Venue is the hall of HAN Thessaloniki in the gym “Mimis Tsikinas”. The favorites prevailed without much difficulty with Olympiakos maintaining the undefeated and Sarises Florinas passing to 2nd place with a game over Panathinaikos. We remind you that the entire activity of the two days in the A2 category was postponed, while not many more matches were played in the following categories due to covid-19 cases.
In the A1 men, Olympiacos brought for the first time in Greece the great Alexander Sibaev, an international athlete with parchments in the European mainstream. The Russian international scored two victories in the match against Pera and the third came from the Portuguese Enio Mendes. On an individual level, the victory of Stratos Damianis against the current Greek champion of the men’s doubles Tassos Riniotis stood out, with which Pera reduced to 1-2. Also in the 1st group, Tatavla advanced with two victories and have the advantage for the 2nd place and the entry in the top 4.

Panathinaikos also had a new presence in the 2nd group. In his trio was also the very remarkable Frenchman Laurent Kova, who made a positive debut. Panathinaikos defeated Rethymno (which had no foreigners in the squad this time) and Ifitos Patron in the three separate matches. AEK follows him on the point, which had a match today and easily defeated Chania. Ifitos suffered two more defeats and no longer avoids the last position of the group.
In the match with the 4th in the ranking OA Chania made a good start when Claudio Kyrou defeated Panagiotis Alexandropoulos, but the islanders turned the situation around with 3-1 (two victories by Giannis Boskovic and one by Manolis Sgouromallis). It should be noted that due to poor signal quality from SEF, it was not possible to stream live live today from the championship matches. The cameras of WEB TV of EFOEPA, of course, videotaped all the games, as has also been established this year by the federation.
For women, A1 continued in Thessaloniki and the XANTH training center. The 8th match did not have anything special in store and the favorites proceeded with victories. Olympiakos, which once again had in its trio the Ukrainian former European runner-up of the simple women Margarita Pesotska, defeated the host XANTH 3-0 in the evening match of the day. Earlier, Sarises defeated DAO Tavros 3-1 and Pera defeated AEK 3-0. The team of Florina moved to 2nd place as Panathinaikos took a break and tomorrow the two teams will face each other in the most important match of the weekend.
