OAKA Management: “Normally the Board, the only issue is the concession to KAE Panathinaikos”

The withdrawal of the injunctive measures by the EOE, led the administration of OAKA to its official position for today’s critical Board of Directors, where it clarified that the only topic of discussion will be the granting of the closed to KAE Panathinaikos.

The relevant announcement in detail:

“At 2:00 p.m., the Board of Directors of the “Athens Olympic Sports Center – Spyros Louis” will meet with the sole topic of approving the final draft of the long-term Concession Agreement of the “Nikos Galis” closed gymnasium to KAE Panathinaikos, in accordance with the terms and conditions of the legislative provision of article 44 of Law 4934/2022.

This morning, at the Court of First Instance of Athens, the Hellenic Olympic Committee waived the writ of Injunctive Measures, with which they requested the postponement of the meeting of the OAKA Board of Directors for the discussion of the Concession Agreement with KAE Panathinaikos and the postponement of its signature thereafter.

The Hellenic Olympic Committee has accepted, as it states in its written statement waiving the Insurance Measures, the Greek Government’s assurances of absolute consistency towards the sports community and of course that there is no intention of “expelling” amateur sports from the OAKA.

He accepted, that is, that in the terms of the Concession Agreement with KAE Panathinaikos, the uninterrupted operation of fencing and other amateur sports, which are active in the premises of the “Nikos Galis” indoor gymnasium, is guaranteed, until the new Multipurpose Indoor Gymnasium is built.

With regard to the new Multipurpose Indoor Gymnasium, which by mistake we want to believe that the relevant announcement of the EOE stated that “for the construction of which no action has been taken so far”, we inform you of the following:

With article 45 of Law 4934 in May 2022 on “Awarding public contracts for studies and projects, supplies and services for the housing needs of sports federations at the Olympic Sports Center of Athens “Spyros Louis”” the “urgent housing needs of the sports federations of sports of fencing, handball, gymnastics and sports team dance at the Olympic Sports Center of Athens “Spyros Louis”” and other sports.

The same article provided for all the relevant procedures for “studies and projects concerning the construction of corresponding sports facilities that are necessary for this purpose, as well as the supporting infrastructure of these facilities”.

The construction is planned to take place in section P8 within the OAKA, in the parking area at the junction of Spyros Louis and Kymi Avenue.

The Architectural Study has already been drawn up and some formal procedures remain to be completed so that it can be submitted to the Town Planning Office in order to issue the relevant permit and start the construction works.

The Multipurpose Indoor Gymnasium will have a capacity of 2,300 spectators and the Project’s budget amounts to approximately 7 million euros.”
