The Greek tennis player could not match his opponent’s pace and even though he managed to equalise, having lost the first set in the tie break, he lost his concentration in the deciding set and is finally out of the tournament in the Spanish capital.
The match started with both opponents taking advantage of their serves and with Tsitsipas reaching “a breath” of the break for 3-1, but losing two break points, allowing his opponent to level at 2-2. Eventually, the set went to a tie break, where Stefanos started strongly with a break for 2-0, but the German responded, winning with 7-5 and making it 1-0.
Tsitsipas came close to breaking his opponent’s serve in the first game of the second set as well, but without success, with the two players going hand in hand until 6-6. At that point in the match, Stefanos’ break came for 6-5, while he won the next game without losing a point, beating me 7-5 and tying the set at 1-1.
In the third and decisive set o Tsitsipas missed two opportunities to break in the third game, which he managed immediately after Strufwho also defended his serve for the 4-1. Stefanos was down to 4-2 and 5-3, but the German finished the match in the ninth game, celebrating victory and qualification.
