Samaris: “There is a lack of respect in Greece, I wouldn’t come back to play again”

An interview with all the material was given to the Portuguese “zerozero” o Andreas Samaris.

Her 33-year-old ace Rio Ave and former player of Panionios and Olympiakos, referred to his tenure in the Iberian stadiums, gave some coordinates for his future which he made clear that he does not imagine in Greece.

In addition, the Greek international underlined that in the stadiums of our country, there is no respect for the sport.

At the same time, Andreas Samaris also spoke about his departure from Benfica and his presence in the Dutch league with the shirt of Fortuna Sittard.

In detail what Andreas Samaris said:

To return to Portugal:

“The Rio Ave people approached my manager. From there I started thinking about the situation. Everyone approached me in an exemplary manner, I really liked the plan that the coach presented to me. I didn’t have much to think about because I liked what I heard so much. My only difficulty was my family and the fact that they could not come with me. I had a conversation with them and from there it was easy to decide. during my years in Portugal, Rio Ave was always, in my eyes, a club that was fighting for Europe. Even in the year he fell, he was very close to excluding Milan from the European competition. In addition, the way I have always been treated by the Portuguese, the relationship with the country and the comfort I have here, were top reasons for me to come back.”

On Greek football and the reason Greece does not export footballers:

“We didn’t take advantage of Euro 2004. We didn’t take advantage of anything. We continue to be a country that does not launch Greek players to be able to help in this way. Nowadays, the Portuguese is considered, in Europe, a good player, with good competitive principles and regularly developed. This is very important, because then you go abroad and you don’t start from scratch, you already have a good foundation.

I see many Portuguese players stand out in these leagues and, at the moment, Portuguese clubs should not abandon this path. It’s the only way to grow clubs by investing even more in facilities and training.”

On Benfica and his departure:

“Portuguese clubs are at the top of the world in player sales, which is a sign that they are doing well. I am left with a positive sign from my presence at Benfica and my departure does not change that for me. The coach at the time (Jorge Jesus) chose another player and the coach has the final decision which we have to respect. We had a very long discussion, he explained the reasons. We can agree or disagree, but ultimately we have to respect each other. Everything’s fine. The club has always been 100 percent with me. I was honest with them, they were with me. Nothing has changed.”

For the applause of the Benfica fans:

“It was definitely the most difficult game of this season. I received a lot of support and affection, it filled me with pride. It is the picture of what I meant for them. I don’t 100% understand what everyone thinks of me, but this was a test that filled me with pride.”

For his future and Greece:

“There’s a lot that’s coming into football that helps the player’s consistency, health and well-being, that wasn’t there before and that makes it last longer. Physically I don’t have a cardiovascular problem, but my problem is more the opportunity. I want to know other realities, but it has to be a project where I can help and feel important. I don’t just want them to look at my resume and put me on there.”

I still don’t have a 100% clear head to think about the future, because now I miss my kids and I can’t wait to go back to Greece in the summer and we’ll see. But my vision is more to know other realities.

Would he say that this is not his last time in Portugal?

“Yes, I would say yes. In my country… I didn’t want to work.”

The differences between Greece and Portugal:

“The difference between Greece and Portugal is that, here, there is still talk of football and tactics. They don’t just focus on arbitration and background. There is a little respect in sports. In my country, I could be wrong, but I don’t think there is.”
