Dion Patterson, 24, who was arrested as the main suspect in the deadly attack on a medical center in Atlanta, was ordered released on bail today after a Fulton County judge denied a bail request.

A former member of the Coast Guard, Patterson is accused of opening fire Wednesday afternoon at Northside Medical Center, killing 39-year-old Amy St. Pierre, a CDC employee, and injuring four women (two of whom are hospitalized in critical condition).

Subsequently, the perpetrator fled in a car he stole from a nearby gas station. He was located eight hours later in Cobb County and taken into custody without resisting, police said in a statement.

According to Atlanta Police Chief Darrin Schierbaum, the gunman visited the medical center for a scheduled appointment, accompanied by his mother, who was not injured in the attack.

The 24-year-old’s mother claimed that her son was suffering from psychological problems and that he was taking anti-anxiety drugs, but doctors refused to prescribe him other drugs, according to US network reports.
