The Italians… sweep again: Three teams in as many UEFA finals after 29 years!

by

This season’s European competitions have been an Italian affair by its teams Serie A!

And how else could it be, since this week the neighboring country saw three of its teams qualify in all three of its competitions UEFA and they are preparing to claim as many trophies.

Initially, in the Champions League the Inter qualified with two victories over the compatriot, Milan and will “duel” with Manchester City for the “big ears” trophy, after 13 years.

THE Roma of Jose Mourinho left Leverkusen out of the semi-finals of the Europa League and will claim the trophy with the “multi-winner” of the institution, Sevilla, and in the third-ranked European club competition, the Fiorentina will meet West Ham in the Conference League final.

So to find the last time three teams from Italy qualified for as many finals, we have to go back 29 years and to the 1993/94 season when the Milan had won the Champions League, Inter the cup UEFA, however, Parma had failed to win the Cup Winners’ Cup final. It has also been held three more times, in the 1988-89, 1989/90 and 1992/93 seasons.

It is worth noting that the absolute “3 out of 3” only happened in 1990, when Milan had won the Champions Cup (1-0 Benfica), the Juventus the UEFA Cup (3-1, 0-0 the double final with Fiorentina) and Sampdoria the Cup Winners’ Cup (2-0 Anderlecht).
