Real for Vinicius: “Such attacks constitute a hate crime – We will file a complaint”

by

On Sunday evening (21/05), Mr Vinicius Jr was once again the victim of a racist attack in La Liga stadiums, this time from its fans Valenciain the away defeat of the “merenches” with 1-0 in “Mestaja”.

This sad incident was condemned from many sides, with the administration of Madrid stating in a statement that such acts constitute a hate crime, emphasizing at the same time that it intends to appeal to the Attorney General.

Real’s announcement in detail:

“Real Madrid shows its strongest disgust and condemns the events that took place yesterday against our player Vinicius.

These events constitute a direct attack on the coexistence model of our social and democratic rule of law.

Real Madrid considers that such attacks also constitute a hate crime, for this reason it has submitted the corresponding complaint to the Attorney General, and specifically to the Office against Hate Crimes and Discrimination, in order to investigate the facts and clarify the responsibilities.

Article 124 of the Spanish Constitution defines the functions of the Prosecutor’s Office to promote the action of justice in defense of legitimacy and the rights of citizens and the public interest.

For this reason, and given the seriousness of the events that occurred, Real Madrid addressed the Office of the Attorney General, without prejudice to its appearance as a private prosecution in the proceeding.”
