Atlético-MG announced this Thursday (12) the hiring of its new coach, Argentine Antonio Mohamed, 51.

The current champion of the Brazilian and Copa do Brasil was without a coach since the departure of coach Cuca, who left the club by his own decision.

“We are very happy. We hope to arrive on Sunday [16] in Belo Horizonte to be with all the fans of the club. Let’s make an effort in this time to improve Portuguese. I hope to improve Portuguese quickly. Grateful for the opportunity and I hope to be there soon,” he said, during a live broadcast with the club’s director of football, Rodrigo Caetano.

Known as “El Turco”, Mohamed will have a contract with Atlético until the end of 2022. He was without a club. The last team he directed was Monterrey, from Mexico, with whom he won the 2019 Mexican Championship.

The coach has most of his titles in the country on his resume. He also won the national title in 2012 and 2014 and the Mexico Cup in 2017 and 2020. His most important title was the 2010 Copa Sudamericana, commanding the Argentine Independiente and defeating the Brazilian Goiás in the final.
