Lucescu: ‘They wanted to boycott the final – I haven’t slept since’

Something like… a mini review of the season that ended was done by Razvan Lucescu in his statements to Romania. The PAOK coach, among the things he mentioned about the presence of his team this year, again made sure to provoke with his statements about other issues. He conveyed information – as he said – that political interests wanted to boycott the final of the Cup, while regarding the result he admitted that he has not been able to sleep since then.

“It was a normal season for us. Neither with spectacular things, nor with bad ones. But if you look through the eyes of the fans and the owner, who do not have the ability to understand the phenomenon of football so well, things were not good. I have spoken to the boss (i.e. Ivan Savvidis), he is at his house.

My biggest problem is the Cup final. I have been to 11 finals and lost four of them, but this fourth one was the most painful. because in the 6th minute we found ourselves with one more player. In the 28th minute we conceded a goal from a set piece, from then on we started playing with a chain around our neck. This is the biggest pain, because it was a trophy in our hands. I haven’t slept since!“, he said and continued:

“There were big political interests, there was also the idea of ​​boycotting the cup final to attack the Federation. They didn’t want it in the Olympic stadium, in Athens, they didn’t want it in Volos, nor in Crete. The idea of ​​holding the final abroad was considered, but the mayor of Volos finally agreed to hold the final there. AEK was against going to Bucharest, that’s how I understood it.”
