Verbic: “Sporar, Cerin and Panathinaikos helped me in my separation”

by

Benjamin Verbitz for the first time spoke about his personal life and pointed out the help he had from his compatriots and teammates Sporar, Cerin and Panathinaikos.

“With Antraj and Adam you realize how much easier it is when you can rely on your international teammates who are also friends in a foreign country. They helped me a lot, and their girls, we spent a lot of time together. In times like these, you realize how important it is to have good friends. The team and the federation also played an important role,” he said on his home country’s website.

Benjamin Verbich’s statements in detail:

Is it difficult for you to talk about your personal life?

“I’m never comfortable talking about it obviously. I rarely comment on this subject because I’m sure it would be disrespectful to my son. These things don’t concern him at all, he’s not responsible for anything, so I don’t want to burden him more. It was definitely difficult for me. As a professional athlete, you spend a lot of time training, physically preparing your body, balancing that with problems in your personal life is definitely a challenge. I continue to persevere and take things from these lessons, but at the same time I don’t look back too much. This is the only way to escape from these problems.”

Have things “calmed down” with your ex now so it’s easier for you to move on and look forward?

“Is. It definitely gets easier for me as time goes on. Every breakup is harder at first, then things start to fall into place. It is the same in my case. The most important thing is that my little one is fine and everything is as it should be. Everything else is already settled or largely settled. It will be easier now.”

Was it easier for you during this period because of the two Slovenian teammates you had at Panathinaikos? Did you feel supported by the team, but also here by the federation?

“It definitely made my life easier. With Antraj and Adam you realize how much easier it is when you can rely on your international teammates who are also friends in a foreign country. They helped me a lot, and their girls, we spent a lot of time together. In moments like these, you realize how important it is to have good friends. The team and the federation also played an important role, they stood by me, we discussed this issue with the federation coach as well and he gave me some valuable advice. I’m grateful to everyone, honestly.”
