Dismissal with head held high by the Greek mini soccer team at the SOCCA World Cup 2023 mini soccer tournament held in Essen, Germany.
The 4-1 quarter-final loss to mighty Mexico may have upset Giorgos Bastakis’ players, but it confirmed for another year that Greece is now firmly among the elite of world mini-soccer countries. Mexico is one of the favorites to win the trophy and entered the match to show its potential.
With two quick goals by Erdantes and Poulidos in the 6th and 10th respectively, the Greeks found themselves chasing the score early on. In the 4th minute of the second half, Hernandez made it 3-0 for the Mexicans, with Hissos immediately reducing the score to 3-1 in the 27th minute. The Greeks pressed but were unable to overturn the score, with the Mexicans making it 4-1 through Ochoa nine minutes from time.
The result of the match did not limit the hot Greek stands to praise the Greek team after the end of the match, thus recognizing the titanic effort of the players and the wonderful moments they gave them with their performance in this year’s World Cup!
