The third – of the four – steps required to win the championship did the Armani Milan!

In a series where home has the first say – his team Ettore Messina prevailed 79-72 of Virtus Bologna in the fifth game of the Italian league finals, now one win away from winning the title (3-2 score)!

Imposing their own tempo early on, the home side had the upper hand on the scoreboard throughout the game, closing out the first half at +5 for 42-37. A quick 11-2 run early in the third period was enough for Armani to push the lead to double digits (56-43), with the visitors then pulling back somewhat to the 59-54 of the quarter.

With Shields and Honeyto come out in front of the critical last period, Armani maintained that small but significant lead it had built up, reaching the pink scorecard with relative ease.

The first scorer for the winners was Savon Shields with 22 points and crucial baskets in the final, with Nicolo Meli (13p., 12p.), Baron (12p.) and Napier (12p., 5as.) following in performance. For Sergio Scariolo’s team, Belinelli (17 points) and Cordinier (14 points) stood out.

The sixth game of the series is scheduled for next Wednesday (21/06, 21:30) at Bologna’s Segafredo Arena, where Virtus will try to send the series to a 7th and final final.

The quarters: 26-24, 42-37, 59-54, 79-72.
