Christian Tsitigoi is the new coach of Athlos Orestiada

The T.A.A. Athlos Orestiada is pleased to announce the start of its partnership with the 45-year-old Romanian former coach of Rapid Bucharest and federal coach of the Romanian national teams K19, K21, Cristian Chitigoi ahead of the new Volleyleague season 2023-2024.

The new coach of our team was born on September 4, 1978 in Bucharest. He comes from a sporting family, being the son of Constantin Chitigoi, one of his country’s all-time greatest volleyball players and coaches and a member of the Romanian National Team that placed 5th at the Munich Olympics.

The management’s choice of Cristian was based on the fact that he is a young, ambitious, “thirsty” technician, whose experience and important performances from international sports events are expected to be valuable resources in the battle of our team’s distinction in this year’s Men’s Volleyballleague.

As a former athlete, Cristian Chitigoi has played for top teams, both nationally (Dinamo, Steaua, Tomis Constan?a) and internationally (CSKA Sofia, Go Pass Lennik), while he has won important accolades in his career, where he has been a finalist many times in the Romanian league and Cup, but also in the Belgian Super Cup. Also best placings in the European Cup races he participated in were a 5th place in the Challenge Cup and a 9th place in the CEV Cup.

Mr. Chitigoi has been for a number of years a key member of the representative group of Romania, while the Romanian Federation for a few years has entrusted him with the “reins” of the technical leadership of the “new blood” of Romanian volleyball, giving him the anointing of “chosen ” coach of the National U19 and U21 teams.

Since 2004 he has been married to Radostina Rangelova – Chitigoi, “bronze” European champion with Bulgaria in 2001, while their 18-year-old son Daniel Cristian, an international player with the Romanian National Team, is considered one of the best players in the world at his age this year as well will be purified in the Polish European champion, Zaksa.

In his first statements as the new coach of Athlos Orestiadas, he emphasized the following: “I am very happy to be a member of the team of Athlos Orestiadas, a city that has a tradition in Greek volleyball. I know that people love the sport a lot since I was a player and for me to work in such an environment is a great motivation, but also a responsibility. Lately, my priority has been to get to know the players of the team, the Greek Volleyleague, so that I can make the right decisions, in cooperation with the administration. My main goal is to create a team in the true sense of the word, with players who are real fighters, “united” in good times, but also in bad times, since and when we lose, we will do it by fighting until the last phase. For me, games are won by the TEAM and not the names”.

The management of Athlos Orestiada welcomes Christian and wishes him a good season with health and many successes with our team, both on an individual and collective level.
