Under the new format, the seventh-ranked team in the regular season will host the eighth-ranked team at home in a knockout game, with the winner securing a place in the playoffs against the second-ranked team.
Accordingly, the ninth will welcome the tenth, with the winner of this pair being hosted three days after the loser of the 7-8 pair and the winner of this match will advance to the playoffs playing the top seed.
Essentially, that is, the seventh and eighth of the regular season will need one win having… two chances to enter the playoffs, while the ninth and tenth will have to win two “final” to play in the playoffs.
