Transfer from the… top shelf for Athlos Orestiada, with the Thrace side moving in to sign Brazilian winger Renan Xanata Bouyati!

The two sides signed a one-year cooperation contract with Athlos significantly strengthening ahead of the new season in the Volley League and the 33-year-old Buyati adding another team to his impressive resume.

The relevant announcement in detail:

“The administration of TAA Athlos Orestiadas is particularly pleased to announce the start of the club’s cooperation with the 33-year-old international Brazilian athlete, Renan Buiatti, who is this year’s first transfer boost ahead of the 2023-2024 Volleyleague season.

He is a top-level player, a member of the Brazilian men’s national volleyball team that took second place at the 2014 World Championship in Poland, with extensive experience from 4 top leagues (Brazil, Italy, Turkey, France) and honors with a total of 12 teams at European and global level, whose presence adds great quality to the team’s roster. The acquisition of the beastly (2.17m) left-handed diagonal, the 2nd tallest volleyball player in the world and tallest in the history of the Greek league, is undoubtedly the biggest transfer in the history of Athlos Orestiadas and one of the biggest in Greek volleyball.

Born on January 10, 1990 in Uberlandia, Minas Gerais, Renan Zanatta Buiatti, as is the athlete’s full name, began his career in 2009 in Sao Bernardo. He stayed there until 2013 and later defended the colors of some of the biggest teams in Brazil such as SESI-SP, SESI-RJ (finalists in Brazil Championship and Cup) Volei Renata/Campinas, Farma Conde/Volei Sao Jose dos Campos and Sada Cruzeiro Volei with which he swept the titles: Championship, Brazilian Super Cup, FIVB Club World Championship 2016 and South American Club Championship. In the last season he competed in the French Tourcoing with which he took 4th place in the LNV Ligue.

In addition to the distinctions in his country, our newly acquired ace comes to Orestiada with valuable experiences and successes from great European championships, such as Italy, where, in addition to Monza and Castellana Grotte, he won 3rd place with Ravenna in the Challenge Cup, Turkey’s Sorgun Belediyespor and of France (Tourcoing Lille Metropole).

A member of the Brazilian National Team since 2013, Renan at the age of 19 impressed on his debut by winning the gold medal at the FIVB U21 World Championship in 2009. Then playing for the Seleção he won, among other valuable titles, a silver medal in 2014 World Championship, a gold medal at the 2017 World Grand Champions Cup, a silver medal at the World League heaps of other titles and accolades in the Americas competitions, as well as top individual accolades, both in the Brazilian league (leading scorer in the Brazilian Superliga 2021 /2022), as well as a leading diagonal in international competitions “with the national emblem”.

The huge athlete in height and talent, impressive in the attack (3.80m) and very effective in the blocks (3.45m), is expected to make a difference in the Greek Volleyleague and help the most in achieving his ambitious goals this year our club.

In his first official statements as a player of Athlos Orestiada, Renan Buiatti said the following: “It’s always a very nice feeling to start a new challenge. Greece is one more country to get to know, Volleyleague one more league to play and I’m sure it will be a great season. I’m waiting for the moment to start training with my new team and to be able to contribute in the best way to the team’s goals for the year” said the Brazilian star, who addressed the team’s friends and said “See you soon…”!

The management of Athlos Orestiada welcomes Renan to the club’s family and wishes the Brazilian ace a good season with health and many successes for him and our team.”
