Verstappen: “I don’t like to think about the title now”

Max Verstappen, triumphant in Austria as well, looks like he is running without an opponent in the battle for this year’s Formula 1 champion title!

In her house Red Bullthe Dutch driver celebrated his 5th consecutive victory and 8th overall this season, but despite leaving Fernando Alonso 100 points behind and team-mate Perez 81 behind, he said he is not yet thinking about winning the title.

“I don’t like to think about the title now. I’m just enjoying every moment driving this car and working with the team. All three days we did a very good job. A lot of things can go wrong, but luckily everything worked out in the end. I’m very happy and I’m now focusing on the next race, at Silverstone”he first reported after his victory at the “Red Bull Ring”, then he talked about his team’s strategy and how he got to the checkered flag.

“The most important thing for me was to stay ahead in the first lap. After that we could have our match, as we had planned it. We chose not to pit under the virtual safety car regime and stuck to our strategy. This worked out very well because the tire life is not very long here and the stint I did was perfect. All in all a great day, it was quite enjoyable”.

“In the laps before the virtual safety car I found that I was immediately creating distance from the following cars, so I knew I would build a gap again. Going with our plan at that point was the right decision.”.
