An announcement about the event was issued by Maritime Union of Patraswhich states: “On the occasion of the unprovoked and unacceptable attack received by our coach Thanasis Kontakos at the “A. Pepanos” swimming pool, we have to clarify the following:

Firstly, this specific action is shocking and the fact that it took place in front of young people, sportsmen and women on our team, makes the event truly terrifying.

Secondly, NEP fully supports our coach Thanasis Kodakos, who has been doing an excellent job over the years for the team, culminating in winning the bronze medal in the Promini Panhellenic Polo Championship. The ethos and hard work of our coach are known throughout Panhellenium and no one can dispute them.

And thirdly, the NEP unequivocally condemns any phenomenon of violence in the playing fields, let alone when it is done in front of young children. Such actions offend common sense and the sports ideal and of course the principles that NEP has advocated all these years».
