The best Greek track and field athletes go to Volos…

Great interest in next weekend’s Panhellenic Athletics Championship at the Panthesal Stadium in Volos will be the vaulting events, in which our country has some of the top sportsmen and women in the world.

Miltos Tedoglou prepares for the seventh race of the summer season and his sixth victory in the long event. The “gold” Olympic champion of the length has this year’s best performance of 8.34 from the European Team Championship in Silesia.

In terms of length, the participation of Nikos Stamatonikoulos also stands out, who this year has improved his individual record with 7.81.

There will be intense interest in the pole vault as well. Where the women will be the world champion of London, Katerina Stefanidis. The 33-year-old vaulter has this year’s best performance of 4.55 and in Volos she will do the seventh competition of the season. She will be joined by the “bronze” world indoor champion, Nicole Kyriakopoulou, who has clocked 4.24 at the Spring Games in Serres and is the athlete with seven wins in the event.

The participation of Eleni Pollak, who has a better record this year at 4.42 and who won the title last year, also stands out. Anastasia Retsa returned from the USA where she is studying, she has this year’s record of 4.20 and will take the final test before the European U23 Championship, while in Volos Iliana Triantafyllou and Alina Florou-Dimitriadou will also compete.

In the men’s pole vault, the participation of Emmanuel Karalis stands out. The “silver” European champion, after equaling his individual record in Silesia with the 5.80 he surpassed, will aim to give a spectacle to the spectators. The 23-year-old jumper will take part in his ninth competition of the summer season and will be joined by, among others, Giannis Rizos, who this year has exceeded 5.46.

Dimitris Tsiamis has 11 victories in the triple jump in Panhellenic open track and field championships and is the jumper who has the top performance in Greece this year in the event with 16.44 from the Spring Games in Serres. Together with the experienced jumper, the “silver” European indoor champion, Nikolas Andrikopoulos, who has this year’s record of 15.92, and Andreas Pantazis, who has this year’s record of 6.26 from Serres, will compete in Volos.

In the women’s triple jump, the entries of Oksana Koreneva stand out, who also won last year’s championship, while she has the best performance this year in Greece with 13.71. Also competing will be Spyridoula Karydis, who will do her last test shortly before the European U23 Championship.

The same applies to Sotiria Rapti, who in Volos will also compete in the long jump, where a few days ago she had a jump of 6.31. Vasiliki Haitidou will also take part in the long run.

Women’s height will also be of great interest. Tatiana Gusin has the top performance in Greece this year with 1.92 and her goal is to retain the title of champion she holds from last year and at the same time make it seven wins in the competition.

Also, the participation of two female athletes who will take part in the European U23 Championship stand out. Panagiotas Dosi, who has set a new individual record this year with 1.87, and Sandy Papakosta, who this year has 1.82. Eleftheria Christogeorgou and Despina Maltabe will also participate in the height.

In the men’s height, the participation of Antonis Merlou stands out, who this year has a jump of over 2.21, as well as Andreas Mita, who has improved his individual record this year, surpassing 2.17.
