A change in the Men’s Basketball Cup-Final 8 is kept-Men’s and Women’s final on the same day

by

The EEC published it notice for the Men’s Cup 2023/24 and in this there is but a slight change.

First of all, the institution of the Final 8 is maintainedwith the participation of the seven teams ranked in the first round of the Basket League and the winner of the Final 4 Unicef Trophy, which will result from the teams participating in the Elite League and the 2nd and 3rd National Leagues (or National League 1 and 2 , as they will be called from the new season) in knockout games in the previous phases starting from September.

THE difference compared to last year is that the team that will qualify to the Final 8 from the Final 4 of the Unicef Trophy, will not get a key number for any ranking position, but for positions 5-8.

It is recalled that this year there was no such restriction, with the result that the winner of the Unicef Trophy, Panionios, won the “1” from the draw and… led to a semi-final between Olympiakos (who got the “2”) and Panathinaikos (who got “3”), after all teams in the Basket League moved down one place.

The place where the Final 4 of the Unicef Trophy and the Final 8 of the Cup will be held are not defined by the announcement, however the president of the EEC made it known a few days ago that the intention of the federation is this year for the final of the Men’s and Women’s Cup to be held on the same day and in same stadium with a difference of a few hours. This is also determined by proclamation of the Womenwhere there is now no Final 4 but the pair will emerge from simple semi-finals to be held in January.

Based on the original schedule, the Men’s and Women’s finals will take place on February 18.
