With a rather careful announcement, the UEFA took a stand on the events in New Philadelphia and the wild episodes caused by its fans Dinamo Zagreb resulting in the death of her 29-year-old fan AEKMichalis Katsouris.
In its announcement, the European federation emphasizes that it is in cooperation with the Greek authorities and has requested a detailed report on the incidents.
At the same time, he states that he is considering the possibility of extra security measures for the two games, first in Zagreb (15/08) and then in “OPAP Arena” (19/08).
UEFA’s announcement:
“On August 8, 2023, in view of the horrific events that took place in Athens, which led to the loss of a life, UEFA announced its decisions to postpone the match between AEK and Dinamo Zagreb that was to be played on the same day.
Following this decision, UEFA is currently in contact with the Greek national authorities and has requested to receive a detailed report of the incidents in order to review and assess the security situation and take appropriate additional measures.
The next steps and any measures to be taken will be announced in due course.”
