Green and officially o Willian Arao. Panathinaikos has formalized the acquisition of the Brazilian ace from Fenerbahce for next two years.
The trefoil had announced the deal with the player since the evening of the big qualifier in Marseille against Marseille, confirming the rumors that had arisen from the Turkeythe previous days.
The announcement states in detail:
PAE Panathinaikos announces the acquisition, by transfer from the Turkish Fenerbahce, of Willian Arao. The 31-year-old Brazilian midfielder has signed a two-year contract.
Willian Souza Arao da Silva, as his full name is, was born on March 12, 1992 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He took his first football steps in Sao Paulo and later in Corinthians, with whose jersey he made his professional debut in the Brazilian top division in 2012 and won his maiden titles.
In the summer of 2013, he was loaned to Portugal, where he played for the first time in international competitions (Copa Sudamericana). In January 2014, he was loaned out again to Chapecoense, where he stayed for six months.
In the middle of the same season, he joined -again on loan- in Atlético Goianiense, while in January 2015 he wore the colors of Botafogo, which he helped significantly to become Serie B champion.
His outstanding performances attracted the interest of major Brazilian clubs and eventually Flamengo signed him on a free transfer in January 2016. With the Rio de Janeiro club he played for 6.5 years having a key role in winning several titles culminating in the two Brazilian championships of 2019 and 2020 and the two Copa Libertadores of 2019 and 2022.
In the summer of 2022, he crossed the Atlantic for the first time as he was transferred to Fenerbahce, with whom he won the Turkish Cup at the end of the season. He has played once with the Brazilian national team.
