European champion Psarros – Bronze medal Kanellos

Aristides-Nicolaos Psarros won on Thursday the top in -48 kg of the European Taekwondo Championships for teenagers and young women that “opened the curtain” in Tallinn, Estonia, thus tripling his personal medals in the top events of the “old continent”.

At the same time, Marios Kanellos got his “maiden” medal in the European championship, after he was third in the -51 kg category, where a total of 24 athletes participated.

Despina Nalbantis (-44kg), Vassiliki Papadopoulou (-42kg), Melina Georgiou (-46kg) and Dimitris Triantafyllakis (-45kg) took fifth place in the premiere of the event.

With today’s two medals, Greek taekwondo reached 92 in the history of the event, 23 of which are gold.

Third European medal for Pssarros from 2021!

Tallinn turns out to be a charm for Psarros, since in the Estonian capital in 2021 he won his first European medal, specifically the bronze in the European children’s. Last year in Malta, the Greek champion was crowned European champion again among the boys, while on Thursday he reached, after an impressive race, the gold medal in the European juniors as well.

Three medals in three years for an excellent athlete, stable competitively who knows how to overcome the obstacles presented in his way. One of them was Turkos Gelaldi in the -48 kg final. Psarros, although he lost the first period 14-12, eventually not only managed to tie the second period (7-9), but also to win, winning the third period (8-10).

On the way to the final, Psarros defeated the Ukrainian Nakhaitsev 2-0, the Israeli Mansour 2-0, and the French Garcia 2-0 in the semi-final.

At -51 kg, Kanellos advanced to the “16” after a 2-0 victory over the Bosnian Dizdar, while he advanced to the quarterfinals, defeating the Dane Petersen 2-1. In the match to enter the semi-finals, he defeated Slovenia’s Miklavcic 2-0, only to lose in the last four to Ukraine’s Manenkof.
