Nikos Polydoros won the bronze medal in the Men’s World Submission Wrestling Championship. The Greek champion competed at 77k. of the Gi category and put on a great performance to climb to the podium for the second year in a row.
In the demanding category of 77k. Polydoros started from the round of 16 where he defeated Germanos Hese 5-0. In the quarter-finals, the Greek champion fought with Roumanos Seban and after a very good performance won 9-2.
In the semi-finals Polydoros faced Manzo from France and was defeated 5-2 and failed to qualify for the final. In the bronze medal match he fought Israel’s Paperni and prevailed 5-2 to win the bronze medal at the World Championships.
At 100k. of the Gi category, Ilias Boukis came within one breath of the bronze medal match, but was defeated by Li (Kyrgyzstan) in the repechage.
Finally, Yiannis Kargiotakis proved once again why he is the best athlete of all time in Submission Wrestling. In yet another event, he was a worthy fighter and came within a breath of another medal. At 130k. he was beaten in the short final by the American Hansen and was unable to make the podium.
