by

He passed away Andreas Antonatos. The veteran footballer among others Panachaikis and his National Piraeusbreathed his last at the age of 85.

The exit sequence will take place on Holy Church of Agios Nikolaos in Selinia in Salamina on Monday (28/08) at 12:30 p.mwith his loved ones saying goodbye to him.

His niece’s Facebook post:

The Maestro of Ethnikos and Panachaki has “gone”!

He was born in 1938 in Patras. Andreas Antonatos, after a short career in Panachaiki, found himself in Piraeus and was about to write brilliant history with the Ethnikos jersey, almost marking an entire decade – the 60’s – with his art. He was a staff midfielder, a player-orchestra, he could bring the opposing defense to his feet under the most difficult conditions. With an excellent right-handed shot, connoisseur of technique, team player to a superlative degree, Antonatos distinguished himself in difficult years for him. And the best years of his career are considered difficult, because this charismatic football player “fell” on Mimi Domazos, as a result of which he once wore the shirt of our national team…

In the 60s, National Piraeus had the best center. Antonatos, Leventakos, Nikiforakis. A trio that left no room for “too much”. The opponent had to sweat a lot to overcome the fort.

Antonatos possessed the most agile football thinking. Excellent at passing with the right, irresistible at balls and set pieces, he was the fear and terror of every goalkeeper, and that’s how he stood against him.

When Andreas Antonatos raised his head, everyone was waiting for the big ball. As if he had a protractor at his feet, he marked and sent the ball a little further than the feet of Takis Hatziioannoglou. “Chaff”, the fastest winger to pass through the Greek stadiums, didn’t have to do much. He simply left the opponent behind, caught the ball and was now facing the goalkeeper.

Like Bepsis, he liked to “prank”, especially when his personal opponent was “of his hand”, then he suffered. Pretense and giggles were in frequent thick viewing. The fouls were won by Antonatos, literally before they happened to him…

Andreas had said:

“The late Dimitris Karellas gave me 120,000, which he had arranged for me if we won the match against AEK. My teammates also got premiums, but I got the most. Karellas believed that I was winning the games.”

When they visited Dimitris Karellas, at the company “Aigeo”, for a “good morning” and a friendly pat on the neck from the tall man, when leaving, he made sure to take some sheets under his arms and no quilts for the children. At that time, these were happening at the National. Even more so when Antonatos “had the right” to take the most. Besides the fact that his wife had already married, she had given him twin daughters”
