An emergency plan has been announced which will come into effect tomorrow to combat rodents
In emergency measures the authorities of Rome are moving forward in order to face an unpleasant threat that it receives Colosseum of countless rats.
Increasingly recently, tourists have been posting videos on social media where rats can be seen running around the Colosseum.
However, according to the Italian authorities, source of evil it seems that it is largely the tourists themselves who, leaving the historical monument, leave garbage behind. In fact, high temperatures make the situation even worse.
The weekend a lot of trash was removed and lenses were installed in the area, while from tomorrow, Monday, the fighting measures will be intensified
According to Rainews, Rome has approx 7 million rats, about 2.5 rodents per inhabitant, according to official estimates.
On summer evenings it is common to see mice scurrying between sidewalks and bins throughout the city. Video reports, even in front of the Colosseum, have multiplied in the warmer months and Federalberghi speaks of a “bad figure with the whole world”.
The intervention of the Environment Directorate will concern both the hiding places in the green spaces immediately adjacent to the Archaeological Park of the Colosseum and the interventions in the street wells.
As happened in the past, a joint intervention with the Archaeological Park itself will again be proposed, in order to make the action against rodents more effective.
In the videos that have been re-released, rodents can be seen roaming among waste paper, plastic bottles and leftover food while in the background the surprised voices of tourists can be heard from time to time.
“We need to clean the city – said Senator Claudio Durigon and Regional Coordinator, as well as Councilor Davide Bordoni – Rome has turned into an open-air landfill with waste of all kinds, an unpleasant smell and mice chasing each other. garbage, weeds and medieval bricks in the historic center Isn’t mayor Gualtieri ashamed?”
