Countdown to the 56th Andros International Sailing Race

The 56^the organization will start on August 31 and two starts are planned, one will be the classic route from Vouliagmeni to Chora Andros and the other from Chios to Nautonis of the Cyclades. The historic sailing race is organized by the Nautical Club of Andros and the Nautical Club of Greece and, already, some of the best crews of Greece, with Olympians and world champions, have entered.

“The classic Andros international sailing race completed 55 events. This year, it returns to normality, without the restrictions of the pandemic, with a full competitive, cultural and local program. There will be several activities for athletes and guests to get to know the uniqueness of the island. The hosting of the Andros Nautical Club will follow the tradition that our sailors know well”, said the president of the Andros Nautical Club Phaidon Tamvakakis.

The event, once again, is expected to bring together the best sailing teams in the country. The special weather conditions that prevail, at that time, in the sea area where the races will be held are a lure for sailors as the specific race is considered particularly demanding. “For another year, the straits of Kafirea will challenge the sailors who will have to use all their seamanship to pass the famous Cape Doro and quickly reach the beautiful Country of Andros”, emphasized the president of the Nautical Club of Greece, George. Prokopio.

The race program, apart from the opening races, includes the local race while it will be completed with the coastal race from Chora tis Andros to Dysvatos. The Andros International Sailing Race, led by Ioannis V. Goulandris, was held for the first time in 1967.
