On the first day of the Bulgarian WTT Feeder table tennis in Panagiouriste, only Dimitra-Thomais Tsekoura competed and with a solid performance she qualified for the women’s singles main draw. One was the qualifying round and the athlete from the “hostess” won in three sets.
In the women’s doubles, Elisavet Terpou/Malamatenia Papadimitriou are going through a similar process. They initially had a bye and on Wednesday morning they play the decisive match for qualification to the main table, finding an obstacle in front of them from Asia. Papadimitriou also competes in the mixed doubles with a foreign teammate, the Spanish Juan Perez, and they also claim qualification for the first 16 on Wednesday.
The main part of the single starts, according to the schedule, on Thursday. Katerina Toliou, Malamatenia Papadimitriou and Elisavet Terpou are directly there, and Tsekoura was added, and the related draws also brought familiar athletes from the Greek A1 against them.
In the women’s singles “knockout” qualifier, Cekura faced Dalma Khasanova on Wednesday afternoon. The Bulgarian also had a combination-rubber (“tooth”), but our champion was superior and showed it with a 3-0 set (11-3, 11-5, 11-6).
The drawing of the scoreboard followed, and there, in theory, Toliou was unlucky. The first Greek woman in the world ranking “fell” against the number 2 of the tournament, the Chinese Wu Yangchen.
Papadimitriou will face the Bulgarian Maria Yovkova, who also competes in Greece with the AEK jersey. Terpou will face her Slovenian teammate in Panathinaikos, Ana Tofad. Cekura will meet the French Charlotte Lutz.
In the women’s doubles, Terpou/Papadimitriou went through the first qualifying round without a match and on Wednesday they compete for entry to the board against Huang Yu-Qiao/Huang Hsin from Chinese Taipei at 10:00.
In the mixed doubles, Papadimitriou and Juan Perez also had a bye in the first qualifying round. At 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday, they face Wu Heongu/Desi Goderinger of South Korea and Luxembourg respectively in the decisive second round and with a win advance to the last 16.
