The 56th Andros Sailing Race confirmed “The toughest race”

With a difficult sailing race from Chora tis Andros to Dysvatos, which impressed the competitors, the 56 was completed^o Andros International Sailing Race “Ioannis V. Goulandris”. The prestigious trophy changed hands this year. The team of “Aristofani – Diana Shipping Services SA”, captained by Simos Kambouridis, emerged as the winner in the general classification, with last year’s winner, “Velos – Eurobank Private Bank”, of Takis Mantis – Pavlou Kayali, occupying the second place . The start of the last race of the race was given by the Deputy Minister of Sports Yannis Vroutsis.

Sailors call the Andros Race “The toughest race” and, for another year, it confirmed its reputation. During the last race of the event most of the boats were forced to use storm sails. Stormy winds accompanied the competitors throughout the course and experienced sailors, after the completion of the race, emphasized that they “faced particularly difficult conditions but enjoyed the adrenaline that such a race offers”.

“It is a great pleasure to emerge as the winner in one of the most difficult competitions in Greece. It had sustained winds of 25 to 30 mph. We didn’t start well but then we pushed and achieved our goal. The wave we saw I could say was one of the biggest I have encountered. Amazing experience. The race deserved the name “The toughest race”. We would like to thank the company “Diana Shipping Services SA”, which gave us the opportunity to compete in this event. Without her help, we would not have taken part”, underlined Simos Kambouridis, the captain of the “Aristofani” boat.

On the 3^the place in the general classification and the first in the Sport category was won by “Giorgio Furuno”, which entered a “wedge” among thoroughbred racers. Its governor is the Olympian Kostas Manthos. Velos – Eurobank Private Bank (T. Mantis – P. Kayalis) took the lead in the sailing race from Chora to Dysvatos. The visual of 56^u race was curated by the well-known painter Nikos Hadoulis, who once again supports the event.
